Who can participate in the Coastline Steward program?
The program is open to students in middle school through college, and recent graduates are welcome too. If you are passionate about birds, conservation, or community action, you are welcome to participate. Younger students may participate with a parent or teacher sponsor.
How much time does the program take?
The program runs over several weeks. Expect about 1–2 hours per week for learning modules and live sessions, plus flexible time for your community action project. You can complete most of the work on your own schedule.
Do I receive service hours or a certificate?
Yes. Students who complete all three phases receive a Coastline Steward certificate. Service or volunteer hour verification may be available through participating schools or partner organizations depending on their requirements.
What do I need to participate?
You need a device with internet access, an email address, access to Google Meet for live sessions, and a willingness to learn and take action in your community.
How are live sessions hosted?
Live learning sessions are hosted on Google Meet. A meeting link is shared with accepted students before each session.
Can I join with a group or club?
Absolutely. School clubs, environmental groups, scout troops, and friends can join together. Each participant should still register individually, but you can work on the same action project as a team.
What happens after I register?
Once accepted, you will receive an email with onboarding instructions, access to the learning modules, the schedule for live sessions, and an invitation to our private Slack workspace. You can then begin your journey as a Coastline Steward.
Is the program free?
Yes. The Coastline Steward program is completely free for students.
