Become a Coastline Steward

A structured pathway that combines learning, hands-on action, and recognized leadership.

Phase 1

Environmental Education

Students complete online learning modules and attend live virtual sessions covering bird-window collisions, coastal bird ecology, and practical conservation.

Phase 2

Community Action

Students apply what they've learned in their own communities, with appropriate permission from property owners or schools.

Phase 3

Recognition

Students who complete the program are recognized for their leadership and contribution.

Coastline Steward Certificate
Potential volunteer / service-learning verification where applicable through participating organizations or schools

Schedule

What the program looks like

A flexible, multi-week schedule designed to fit around school and summer commitments.

Week 1 — Welcome & Orientation

Meet the team, get access to the learning modules, and learn how to use the program platform. Accepted students are invited to our private Slack workspace for updates and support.

Weeks 2–3 — Live Learning Sessions

Join virtual sessions covering bird migration, window collision science, and simple mitigation solutions. Sessions are hosted on Google Meet.

Weeks 4–5 — Community Action Planning

Identify windows in your school or community and plan a bird-safe treatment project.

Weeks 6–7 — Hands-On Implementation

Apply decals, tape, or markers with permission, document your work, and share your progress.

Week 8 — Community Sharing

Present your project, share what you learned, and connect with other Coastline Stewards.

Week 9 — Recognition & Next Steps

Receive your Coastline Steward certificate and explore ongoing leadership opportunities.

Time commitment: about 1–2 hours per week, plus flexible time for your action project.
