Akshaya Sahasra Ganji (she/her)

Hawthorn Woods, Illinois

Florida International University (Honors College) in BS/DO program, Undergraduate

Akshaya Sahasra Ganji is a sophomore in the Honors College at Florida International University, where she is in a combined BS/DO program, studying biological sciences with a philosophy minor. Her coastline stewardship project, Lights Out at FIU, looks at how glass and nighttime lighting on FIU's Modesto Maidique Campus put migrating birds at risk, and asks the university to turn off non-essential lights during migration and treat its most dangerous windows. Much of her research and writing is about how policy shapes health, and she wanted to apply that same approach to protecting birds along Florida's coast. Outside of CFCN, she is trained in Kuchipudi, a classical dance form from South India.
